I was skeptical of this pick, as he’s never made a big splash on the radar as a rookie.
But he’s a legit quarterback who has shown he can compete at a high level for a starting job.
So the Jaguars had the cap space to go after him in a trade for another veteran quarterback, as well as to sign an undrafted free agent to compete for the backup job.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this happens again in the future.
I’m not sure the Jaguars are going to make this pick again, but it could happen.
JAX: 5-11 | 3-9 | 0-3 The Jaguars have lost five of their past six games, and they have yet to win a game in a span of two months.
They have allowed 23.6 points per game, which is their lowest total in the past four years.
The only way the Jaguars can make the playoffs is to win out, and I think the draft will make that easier.
If they’re smart, they can use this pick to get a young quarterback, and make sure that veteran has a strong year before moving on to the next draft.
Jacksonville could use a guy like Jared Goff, or Christian Hackenberg, who is a true pro.
And the draft could also help the Jaguars by getting another quarterback on the roster who can compete for a job at the quarterback position.
So while I wouldn-and will-still be skeptical of the pick, I think it could be worth the risk to get something that could be useful for the Jaguars.
