The NHL has given the Vegas Golden Knights the opportunity to choose between playing in the Las Vegas Convention Center or at SAP Center in San Jose, the league announced Friday.
The Golden Knights will move to the new venue when they return to the NHL in 2019-20.
Vegas will host the 2018 All-Star Game in SAP Center, and the team will also host the 2020 Olympics.
The team will play at SAP in 2018-19 and 2020-21.
The expansion franchise, which has yet to be named, will join the league’s Atlantic Division in 2021-22.
The NHLPA said in a statement that it is “delighted that the NHL has decided to award the expansion franchise an expansion franchise in San Francisco, California.”
“This decision is an important one for the Golden Knights organization and the entire San Francisco Bay Area community,” the statement continued.
“We thank the NHL for their consideration and look forward to our return to San Jose.”
